Protection of victims of criminal offenses

During the past 6 months, AWEN has been advocating for the rights of 19 victims of criminal offenses in the District Courts. These cases involve gender-based violence perpetrated against the victims and their family members.

Through legal support and interventions, AWEN aims to ensure that the rights of victims in the criminal process, including the right to be notified and recognized, as well as the right to dignified representation before judicial bodies, are not merely theoretical.

There are numerous challenges faced with the district prosecutor's offices. Prosecutors must adhere to the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which grants victims of criminal offenses the right to file reports, request expanded investigations and the collection of evidence, receive information about the arrest and release of the accused, and be heard, as stipulated in Article 58 et seq. of the Penal Code.
