Two day gathering: AWEN, Feminist Collective and Radical Sense

AWEN, in collaboration with the Feminist Collective in Albania and the reading and translation group Radical Sense, organized a two-day meeting from June 17 to June 19 in the village of Mllojë, Koman (Shkodër). The purpose of the meeting was to read, edit, and discuss feminist texts translated into Albanian language. Among the selected texts were "Women in the Market" by feminist theorist Luce Irigaray, "Happy Militantism" by anarchist authors Carla Bergman and Nick Montgomery, and "The Will to Change" by renowned feminist author Bell Hooks.

This gathering was part of the project "Strengthening the coordinated response of service providers from the police, health structures, education, and the local sector for case management of all forms of violence against women, in accordance with CEDAW standards and the Istanbul Convention." The project was funded by the EU, supported by UN Women, and implemented by AWEN.

The practice of group reading was explored during the meeting, focusing on how it strengthens the bond within a community. The collective reading and translation of texts were discussed as transformative experiences. Additionally, the meeting examined how feminist thought provides the theoretical tools to articulate ongoing engagement and activism as an individual within a collective. These questions guided the scheduled sessions and facilitated meaningful discussions among the participants.

Protection of criminal victims

During the last 6 months, AWEN has been defending 19 victims of criminal offenses in the District Courts. All cases have experienced crimes of gender-based violence against them and their family members.
